Q: What if I want to change my username/password?

A: No problem! Just go to My Homepage and follow the easy steps!

Q: Can I use my e-mail address as my username?

A: No. Friendsinthecity.net imposes this restriction because we take your safety very seriously. Your username is a word or phrase that is unique to you and one that you select yourself. Depending on the name you choose, this may even give others a clue about the type of person you are, or perhaps the type of people you are hoping to meet! Whereas your e-mail address identifies you outside the Friendsinthecity.net community, your username allows you to remain anonymous while you communicate to other members on the site. This ensures that you stay in control and you decide when you are ready to reveal your true identity.

Q: What are Friendsinthecity.net's profile guidelines?

A: All adults 18 years or over are welcome to join Friendsinthecity.net

To ensure that we maintain a level of comfort on-site that is appropriate to all our members, each profile is individually reviewed by our customer care team.

Should any of the following be contained anywhere in your profile, our customer care team may request that the profile is modified prior to acceptance:

  • Any direct contact information (i.e., email addresses, URLs, phone numbers, full names, postal addresses)
  • Any location or descriptive information that threatens a member’s anonymity
  • Abusive language of any kind (i.e., vulgarity, racism)
  • Discussion or descriptions of illegal acts or behaviour (i.e., drug use, violence)
  • Business or political advertisements or solicitations
  • Foreign languages (to effectively monitor profiles, they must be in English)

We must also insist that members do not add any html to their profiles.

By abiding to these simple guidelines, you are playing a great part in ensuring that all members of our community remain comfortable. We thank you for that.

We reserve the right to revise our guidelines periodically, so please check back from time to time for updates.

Q: Is it really necessary for me to post my photo on Friendsinthecity.net?

A: Much research has been conducted to discover that profiles with a photo actually receive eight times more attention than those without! That’s eight times as many friends you are losing out on meeting if you choose not to attach a photo!

A picture of yourself will tell more about your personality and characteristics than words. To make your profile stand out even more, why not add a photo of yourself that says something about who you are? For example, one of our members placed a photo of himself on a ski slope. Anybody who likes skiing will immediately be drawn to his profile, before they have even read a single word!

Q: What are the guidelines for attaching a photo?

A:
To ensure that we maintain an appropriate level of comfort for all our members, photos will not appear on the site until they are approved by our Customer Care team.

Please note that if the photo you submit for attachment to your profile contains any of the following, our customer care team may have to withhold approval:

(a) Nude, obscene, sexual or otherwise offensive photos;
(b) Photos of celebrities (these are subject to strict copyright laws);
(c) Photos in which you do not appear, or you are not clearly visible.

Q: How do I attach a photo?

A:
By giving you three ways to post your photo, we have tried to make it as easy for you as possible to find even more friends!
.
Option 1: Upload a Photo

To upload a photo directly from your computer, simply go to the “My Homepage” page and follow the instructions.

Once approved, uploaded photos will appear on your profile exactly as they are submitted (subject to final approval by our customer care team – see previous question for more details) Due to the large amount of photos that we receive, it may take 24 to 72 hours for your photo to appear on your profile, but we know how quickly you want to start enjoying your new friends, so we will try to be as quick as we can!

If you have already gone through all the steps explained in the “My Profile” section and are still experiencing difficulty, you may either choose another option below, or contact us and we will do our utmost to help.

Option 2: Email a Photo

Due to the huge volume of photos submitted by email, it may take up to 72 hours for your photo to appear on your profile. To help speed up the process when you email your photo, please include the following information:

First and last name
Friendsinthecity.net username
Friendsinthecity.net registered email address
Birthdate (mm/dd/yyyy)

To make your life easier, we only ask for one photo per member! Please send only ONE photo in your e-mail. Photos must be sent as attachments only. We cannot accept a picture embedded in an email.

You can e-mail your photo to photos@friendsinthecity.net and we will take it from there!

Option 3: Send a Photo by post

We can scan and place your photo onto your profile for you. For free! Be sure to select photos no larger than 5" x 7" and no smaller than 2" x 2". To minimise delay, please ensure that your photo meets our photo guidelines.

Please write the following on the back of your photo:
First and last name
Friendsinthecity.net username
Friendsinthecity.net registered email address

You can send your photo to the following address:

ATT: PHT
Friendsinthecity.net
PO Box 158
Sidcup
DA14 6YB

We realise that your photos mean a lot to you, so we will take the utmost care of them until they are returned. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope that is big enough to hold the photos and we will endeavour to have your photos back to you within as short a time as possible.

Q: How many photos are allowed on my profile?

A:
Soon, people who are interested in making friends with you will start recognising you far more easily from your photo, whenever they conduct a search. In order to prevent confusion, we only allow one photo to be uploaded onto your profile.

Q: Do you automatically renew subscriptions to ?

A:
No. We do not automatically renew your subscription. When you subscribe, you will be given a choice whether you want us to automatically renew your subscription. If you choose not to, then at the end of your current subscription, you will be asked whether you wish to continue with the subscription. If you choose not to continue, you will simply go back to being a regular member.

However, there are significant advantages to signing up for automatic renewal. For one thing, your subscription is guaranteed to remain at the same price throughout! Any price increases will never affect you! Another great reason is that your service continues uninterrupted, ensuring that you always receive your e-mails from friends that you have made on-site, even if you were not quite ready to make contact outside the site just yet! And don’t forget all those events you risk missing out on…

Q: Do you have any tips to help me search for friends?

A:
Searching provides you with members’ profiles who best fit your criteria, based on what you specify as being important to you at the time of searching. By specifying what particular characteristics/interests/ personality etc that you would like your friends to have, you save precious time by browsing only profiles that mean something to you. We deliver you the best potential matches.

Your criteria may well change according to your circumstances at any time. For example, you may wish to find a badminton partner this weekend, so you might not be too bothered about their characteristics….so long as they know how to play and want to play! But if you come back to find friends to go clubbing, or perhaps on holiday with, then you may want to specify more criteria to get the characteristics you can live with!

You can change your search criteria instantaneously, which means that you benefit from maximum chances of finding the people that most suit you at any one time.

Q: Is there a way to save searches so that I don’t have to go through the process to find them again each time I log on?

A:
Yes. Each member has their own “Best Friends” list, which allows you to save up to ten profiles that you may find to be of interest to you. You can add to your Best Friends at any time and you can of course delete them too, all with one very simple process. Simply visit your “My Homepage” page and follow the simple instructions.

Q: How do I Block/Remove users?

A:
Friendsinthecity.net has a "Block User" function. This allows you to block a member's profile from reappearing in your search results. It will also prevent the blocked member from sending you any e-mails or messages. Should you change your mind about the member at another time, you can always unblock them by following the simple procedure on-site.

Q: How is the e-mail I send to other members anonymous?

A:
We respect your privacy and will keep your actual email address confidential. No one else will ever see it displayed anywhere within the site. All written communication from other members will be directed to your very own e-mail account at friendsinthecity.net. We will then forward your messages on to the e-mail address you provide us with upon registration, ensuring that your privacy is maintained throughout.
