Top Five ...
Places to hang out with your friends

Lincoln's Inn Fields
When you've had too much of the traffic and smog, this splendid hideaway is the perfect place to unwind, right in the heart of town. Surrounded by elegant Georgian architecture and just a stone's throw from Sir John Soane's museum, London has never seemed so collegiate. And once you're restored, the coffee shops and chic boutiques of Neal's Yard are just five minutes away.
Nearest tube: Holborn

London Zoo
This famous London attraction is certainly not just for kids, you know. Tigers, lions, bears...who could resist? And if you do get tired of watching the animals, there's always the art deco splendour of the penguin pool and the rich green expanses of surrounding Regent's Park to enjoy.
Nearest tubes: Regent's Park or Camden Town.

The Retro Bar, off The Strand
Hidden away down a tiny alley, this quirky, gay-friendly hang-out has a poppy feel complete with hand-drawn pictures of indie celebs plastered on its walls. A very hip place to relax with friends.
Nearest tube: Charing Cross

The OXO Tower, South Bank
A distinctive riverbank landmark, the tower boasts a restaurant with glamorous wine bar, a second floor brasserie and some of the best views of London from anywhere on the South Bank. Save up, dress up and relax on the balcony of the tower, sipping champagne and lazily watching the river swing by. (And if you're feeling hard up, you can enjoy the view without ordering too.)
Nearest tube: Waterloo

The Anchor, Bankside
Dripping with history, this crazy maze of a pub is all creaking floorboards and low beams. Set hard on the banks of the river, the pub has outside seating and serves good British beer and simple tuck. Why not explore the winding streets and atmospheric alleyways throughout the area too? You could almost believe you're back in the London of the 1850s.
Nearest tube: London Bridge
